The Department of Sociology of Govt. College Sector-9 Gurugram organized a Debate Competition on “Should College Education be Free for All Students?” on 22.08.2025 in the college. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from students who came forward to present their views both in favour of and against the motion. The program began with a welcome address by the Head of the Department of Sociology, Dr. Monika Sehrawat, who highlighted the significance of the topic in the present socio-economic context. Participants arguing in favour of the motion stressed that education is a fundamental right, and higher education should be accessible to everyone irrespective of their financial background. On the other hand, participants opposing the motion argued that providing free college education may not be feasible due to the high financial burden on the government. The competition was intense and thought-provoking, with participants presenting strong arguments, counter-arguments, and real-life examples. The debate not only enhanced the oratory and critical thinking skills of the students but also encouraged them to reflect deeply on issues related to education, equity, and policy.
