Social Service Cell Visit to Old Age Home for Counselling Session Date:23.08.2025 Venue:Avi Social Welfare Foundation Sector 4 Gurugram The Social Service Cell of Government College, Sector–9, Gurugram organized a visit to an old age home on 23.08.2025 with the objective of conducting a counselling session for the elderly residents. The programme aimed at offering emotional support, companionship, and encouragement to the senior citizens, many of whom face challenges of loneliness, health issues, and detachment from their families. The visit began with an interaction session where students and faculty members warmly engaged with the residents. The counselling team led by Dr. Satyam ( Assistant Professor, Department of Psychology. Dr. Satyam along with Dr. Bhawana and volunteers from psychology department conducted group and individual sessions focusing on mental well-being, stress management, and positive thinking. The elderly shared their life experiences, challenges, and fond memories, which helped to build trust and a sense of belonging. Special attention was given to residents suffering from feelings of isolation. The counselling session included relaxation techniques, motivational discussions, and interactive activities designed to uplift their spirits. The visit highlighted the importance of compassion and social responsibility. Both the students and the faculty realized the need for society to care for its elderly population, ensuring their dignity and happiness in the later stages of life. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks to the management of the old age home for their cooperation. The residents expressed their gratitude for the visit, and the students pledged to continue such initiatives under the Social Service Cell.The visit was a meaningful experience that not only provided emotional relief to the elderly but also sensitized students towards the values of empathy, respect, and service. The Social Service Cell looks forward to conducting similar programmes in the future.
