The Department of Sociology, Government College, Sector-9, Gurugram, organized a speech competition on 19th September 2025 on the theme “Gender Equality: Myth or Reality in Modern Society.” The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from students.
The program began with a welcome address by the Head of the Department of Sociology (Dr. Monika Sehrawat), who highlighted the relevance of the topic in the present scenario where society continues to grapple with issues of discrimination and unequal opportunities despite constitutional guarantees.
A total of 20 students participated in the competition and presented thought-provoking speeches. The participants critically examined the concept of gender equality, discussing whether it is truly being practiced in modern society or still remains an ideal. Some highlighted the progress made in the fields of education, employment, and politics, while others shed light on persisting challenges such as wage gaps, domestic violence, and cultural stereotypes.
The event was a resounding success, creating awareness and inspiring students to think critically about the realities of gender equality in modern times.
